  • Portrait of an elderly Dong woman in traditional attire (best larger to see the selection details)<br /> <br /> Huanggang Dong Village, Guizhou Province, China<br /> <br /> The other day I downloaded the trial version of Topaz remask and after a couple of frustrating days with it today I decided to figure out how it worked and see if it was worth purchasing since some people like it for complicated selections involving hair, feathers, etc.<br /> <br /> I choose a portrait of a Dong woman with a busy, distracting background where there was a selection challenge with the wool tassels on her hat. After making the selection I put in a black BG to match the black fabric in her outfit, but at that stage I could have put in any background I thought was suitable, e.g., a rice field also posted today.<br /> <br /> The bottom line, it is still time consuming and finicky and I suspect that using the Photoshop CC selection tools as a first step might be quicker. But I think the wool tassles on her hat were easier to select in Topaz remask, but it certainly wan't a slam dunk and required a bit of time to get it right.
