Life in the cracks
In Huangshan National Park, Anhui Province, China it was amazing to see even quite large trees and other vegetation living at the top of granite pillars up to several hundred feet high. The natural cracks in the rock retain enough water from the rains and mists in this region to support the community of plants that grown in these seemingly harsh conditions. The region is a UNESCO Heritage Site very popular as a tourist destination with the Chinese, and has been widely depicted in Chinese art.
Did anyone notice the face in the pillar with the moustache and beard....most obvious in the thumbnail.
