Mother grizzly with sockeye salmon, Mitchell River, British Columbia
The Cariboo-Chilcotin region is a huge area in the middle of British Columbia that stretches from the Pacific Coast to the Cariboo Mountains. It is the site of several major salmon runs, including the sockeye salmon run that enters the Fraser River from the Pacific, and proceeds up the Fraser River system to the Quesnel River, then Quesnel Lake and finally the Mitchell River where they spawn, a journey of several hundred kilometers. This mother grizzly bear had brought her three cubs to the spawning beds of the Mitchell River to feast on salmon.
Several photos of the grizzly and her cubs feasting on salmon can be seen here: http://goo.gl/MjKnUQ
