Bayon Temple

As I travel around the world, I notice how the culture of travel is rapidly changing, with people travelling in larger groups, that are noisier, with less consideration for others, and more interest in having their photo taken in front of something , and little interest in the thing itself. This photo was taken at Bayon Temple in Siem Reap, and after having my photo taken numerous times (with my consent) by the tourists there, I decided that turn about was fair play. Notice that they all have their backs to the temple.<br />

It is interesting your observation here about individuals having ..."more interest inf having their photo taken in front of something, with little interest in the thing itself". I am finding this to be so very true as well. Last year we were at the top of Mount Pilatus in Switzerland and it was crazy how people were so intent on taking and retaking photos of themselves while travelling along a very narrow, slippery, upward path. In any case your photo here is totally interesting and tells the story so very well. I would also like to thank you for your recent visit to one of my galleries and your comment on one of my images. It is very much appreciated. Since joining Smug Mug I have felt rather uncertain about how to connect with other photographers - I guess the best is do just search a bit and then respond as you did on my site and I reciprocate here. I find your galleries to be extensive and stunning. I shall return.

    Hi Terry, great Capture.

Nice shot of the action with this group. When we visited Grand Canyon last fall, I thought I'd arrived in "Selfie-stick heaven". Rangers said they'd had several near fatalities of people trying to get selfies backing up too close to the edge of the canyon..... and consideration of other visitors was never in their thoughts.

SAME EVERY PLACE, IT SEEMS. SAD . SO MANY COUPLES /GROUPS IN COFFEE SHOPS ETC. AND ALL SITTING TOGETHER WITH NO WORDS SPOKEN. CELL PHONES/TABLETS BLOCKING THEIR VIEW.

I see that here in the states too. So many people snapping away (primarily with cell phones) with no true thought to the photo or the item they are capturing. Most of the time, it seems, that the selfie is the most important. It's interesting to me that you are seeing more traveling in crowds rather than in pairs or smaller groups that care about the comfort and enjoyment of others and not showing respect for what they are (or should be) looking at. Nevertheless, this is a neat photo, and I'm glad you turned your camera on them. Well done!

It's the era of the selfie! Just think in a few million years, humans will have long arms again due to stretching them out to take selfies! Nice shot!

Look on the bright side. The tourism still supports the local economy, regardless of what was in the photographs. Those personal choices wouldn't bother me nearly as much as people being noisy and rude and not respecting the other people visiting the same locales, or not respecting the places themselves, as in the case of temples or churches.
