Up close and personal
The polar bears at Seal River Lodge, Manitoba hang around on the shores of Hudson's Bay in the late fall waiting for the sea ice to form so they can go out to hunt seals that come up to their breathing holes on the ice. The bears are in a state of 'waking hibernation' and are not so aggressive during this time. They can be observed and photographed on foot with the proper precautions.
