In the fall in the mountains of Patagonia, pumas (Puma concolor patagonia), with their golden colours, disappear into the low bush and fall grasses and they can be virtually invisible just a few feet from you along a road or a trail. This makes them notoriously difficult to see and photograph in the wild. On a hillside, this young female came out of the bush and walked towards my camera, showing curiosity, before turning and walking down the hill away from me. The chief prey animal of the Patagonia pumas is the guanaco, which they hunt in the evening and night, and there are almost no reports of attacks on humans (other than one wearing a guanaco pelt)
