Maasai rondavels and kraals
Aerial view of a Maasai village with rondavels (round huts, that look like rather like mushrooms in this shot) and kraals (enclosures for cattle or other livestock, surrounded by a fence of thorn-bush branches). Many Maasai villages can be seen in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area outside the Ngorongoro Caldera (best larger).
Linda: The Maasai are herdsmen and have huge numbers of cattle that they protect from the wildlife (e.g., lions) within the kraals.
