L'anse aux Meadows is thought to be the location of the first Viking settlement in North America. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this image the visitor center is framed by the 'Meeting of the two worlds' sculpture, completed in two pieces, one by Newfoundland sculptor Luben Boykov and the other by Swedish sculptor Richard Brixel. The two elements of the 3000 pound bronze sculpture symbolically correspond to the geographic points of departure and landing of the Vikings, and their subsequent meeting with Aboriginal peoples. i saw this in your Viking's gallery and wondered about it. Thanks for sharing the "meaning" behind the two. Its really beautiful and very complimentary to the framing of the walk and the visitor's center.
